Mummy’s 50th birthday dinner

We actually planned to take mummy to Carousel for her 50th, unfortunately they were fully booked till the 8th. So we scrambled to find the next best alternative, Sakura International Buffet @ Cairnhill.

There were several stations there; Japanese, deep fried offerings like tempura or kani, chinese, grills, desserts & dim sum. What made me a really happy eater was that they had smoked duck sushi & pipa duck with braised sea cucumbers. The smoked duck sushi was unbelievably good, kinda like the smoked duck slices from Seoul Hot Pot. We tried the baked oysters & mussels, grilled scallops & yakitori, grilled lamb shoulder, beef satay & many many more. A wide variety of seafood is available for everyones taste buds.

Korean Kimchi Hotpot

[This restaurant has moved to Harbourfront] After a weekend of eating & shopping in KL, I was ready to go home. My flight reached Singapore by 745pm, a 15 minutes delay. Called my folks & they said to meet @ Terminal 2, so I dragged all my bags from Terminal 1 and took the skytrain. I guess it was worth it because we had Korean hot pot @ Seoul Garden Hot Pot. They had smoked duck on the menu!!!! I was so psyched!!! The kimchi broth & all the mushrooms & vegetables was wonderful. I took sirloin slices and swirled it in the hot pot, dipped it in the green sauce, to die for!!!! The smoked duck was so tender and had such a smoky taste, muy delicioso! I wanted more! But everything in moderation 🙂 we also tried the seafood pancake, there was a nice dipping sauce, chilli oil and something like a shrimp mixture kinda like ikan bilis sambal tumis. It was so good! There were also different types of kimchi, mushrooms, white radish & cucumber kimchi. I love the variety!

Bistro Delifrance at Ngee Ann City

n680443464_2285001_5605217One evening, Steph and I ended up at Ngee Ann City. I think we were there to check out Sephora. I’ve been to the Sephora in Las Vegas, Santa Monica and San Diego where the service was top notch and I was so happy to try before I buy. Didn’t get the same feeling here, so I didn’t spend a cent at all. Left the store feeling like it was a total letdown. The only way to perk my spirits up was duck! I like duck, don’t usually eat it, but if I see it on a menu, I’d definitely order it. It’s really rare to find halal duck dishes in restaurants, usually we’d be able to find only roast duck rice at halal family eateries around Singapore.

So I dragged Steph to Bistro Delifrance because I wanted to try out their duck offerings 🙂 I wasn’t disappointed, I ordered duck mango salad and duck confit, which they don’t serve anymore 😦 . Steph ordered a mug of french onion soup and seafood baked rice. I LOVE the duck salad! The smoked duck breast was perfectly paired with a honey vinaigrette and chunks of juicy mango. The salad made my evening slightly better afterwards.
