NaPoWriMo Post #30 Sewers

Day 30 y’alls! NaPoWriMo has unfortunately come to a close today. The challenge today is to select a short poem and rewrite each line by “replacing each word (or as many words as you can) with words that mean the opposite.” I’ve chosen “O Rio” by Manuel Bandeira to work with today. His poem advises one to stay true to oneself amidst constant change. Mine though is nothing like his, it’s an advice I wish someone would keep telling me, to avoid thinking bad thoughts and sad memories.

Sewers

Don’t be like the chocked up sewers
Gurgling in the day
Be brave in the brightness
If there are rats on the ground, avoid them
If there are cockroaches on the ground,
Remember, cockroaches, like the sewers, are filthy
So, avoid them them too,
In your own chaotic mind

That is very funny. Reminds me of this random thought I had the other day: “I have weeds in my thinking.”🙂

  2. I like your poem. It’s self contained and says something. Have you got a link to the original?

  3. Duh! Just found the link and read it. I like your version much more now🙂

If you cannot avoid bad thoughts and sad memories…who among us
may?…transform them, with the goodness that you are.
