NaPoWriMo Post #27 A house is not a home

Today’s prompt for day 27 of NaPoWriMo , requires you to pick a proverb or phrase, use the first three words of the proverb or phrase and plug into google, pick out words from the results, and create a poem. I used “A house is” from “A house is not a home”. There was an article on The New York Times about a clapboard house that was sold for alot of money and the song “A house is not a home”, which Burt Bacharach wrote, videos of Luther Vandross singing that and of course that scene from Glee where Kurt and Finn sing this song that came up high in the results.

The house is no longer a home

Under a charming suburban sky
There was a clapboard house
With friendly yellow sliding
Belied the actual truth inside
What the house was really hiding

That adorable quaint house with pitched roof
Is not as charming inside as it appears
No lovers kiss goodnight
No spouses hold each other tight
Instead its occupant is always in tears

The house was just a pretty facade
A symbol of a relationship not yet torn apart
But the woman now lives alone
Her husband had left the matrimonial home

Marriage in tatters, she has no one now
Over the years, they had grown so far apart
She lives there with a broken heart
That house is no longer a home
