NaPoWriMo Post #25 A ballad for the girl in red

25th day of NaPoWriMo, and the prompt is to compose a ballad, with ABAB rhyme pattern, four lines with six to eight syllables alternating. Check out NaPoWriMo for more details.

A ballad for the girl in red

The quiet things that people don’t know
About that girl in red
She sits by the window
Beside her lies a book she’s read

While the sun’s going down
With it’s golden glimmering rays
Only memories are left
Of her once happier days

Everyday at 5 she sits alone
Staring out the window
And sometimes gazing at her phone
That never seems to glow

While the sun’s going down
With it’s golden glimmering rays
Only memories are left
Of her once happier days

Her chocolate croissant lies untouched
Nor her café au lait
One wonders who she’s waiting for
Every single week day

While the sun’s going down
With it’s golden glimmering rays
Only memories are left
Of her once happier days

Sitting at the seat by the window
Reminds her of the times
She sat there with her beau
Who was lost last year in the mines

While the sun’s going down
With it’s golden glimmering rays
Only memories are left
Of her once happier days

  1. I love how you put this one together! The feeling to me is very sad and lonely. I imagine someone waiting for a love that has disappeared or died.
