In Singapore, one can find a lot of stalls claiming to sell Nasi Padang. Each stall would offer a different variety of dishes, but one would always find the typical beef rendang, gulai ayam and the like. The Nasi Padang I grew up with was smoky, spicy and full of robust flavours. I found those same flavours at Sari Ratu.

I’d have to say when one goes to Sari Ratu, one must definitely order their Gulai Tunjang. The gulai tunjang is a dish of beef tendons in a spicy gravy. The tendons are so gelatinous that it just melts in your mouth. Whilst the gravy, it just screams to be poured all over a pyramid of hot white rice.

Ok so you’ve ordered a rich and spicy dish, now you should get the Sup Buntut (Oxtail soup). A good Oxtail soup to me has to be full of beefy goodness and yet not clouded, a clear and flavorful soup. The oxtail just pulls apart on your plate with a fork, it’s that tender!

And no dish is complete without the sambal hijau ( Green Sambal ) . It elevates every spoonful of rice into amazingness! There are a lot of dishes to try at Sari Ratu, these are just some of my favorites.

Sari Ratu is located at:
20 Pahang Street Singapore 198617
