Mackenzie Rex

If one is in Singapore and have not yet tried the chicken rice at Mackenzie Rex, you’ve been missing out! The rice is flavorful & the roast chicken one if the best I’ve tried. Mackenzie Rex is one of the best places to go to if you’re looking for halal Chinese food in the Dhoby Ghaut area. Take the train to Dhoby Ghaut MRT, and take a short walk past the School of the Arts towards Prinsep place and you’ll find Mackenzie Rex. It is best to work out your appetite before feasting on such delectable fare. Other than their famous chicken rice, one should try their side dishes of salad you tiao or their ngoh hiang. Their you tiao is fried crisply that when you dip ’em into the salad sauce and pop them into your mouth, you can’t stop. Whilst their ngoh hiang is chockful of ingredients rolled skillfully into a sheet of beancurd skin & deep fried. One of my favourite mains are their sambal crabs, gosh the sauce is sweet, spicy and eggy that you can’t stop dipping your mantou into it. I could even slurp on it, it’s that good. Their crabs are huge, & the chefs are so thoughtful that they smash the shells to make it easier to get to the plump flesh. I eat chilli crabs with a fork & a knife & I usually get weird stares from everyone around me, but hey it takes skills to polish off crabs with ’em. There’s also their special garlic garoupa, I can just wax lyrical about the sauce but I’ll just say this, the fried garoupa is topped with a yummy garlicky, chilli, corriander & lemon sauce. To die for, I’d say🙂
