BBQ Korean at Cineleisure Orchard

After Isyak prayers last night, we decided to have dinner at Orchard. Utterly rare for the whole family to decide to eat there since its usually so crowded. Or maybe its because its due to my constant bugging yesterday morning. Anyways, Adik got off class at 9.45pm so by the time the orders arrived, it was still piping hot. The manager remembered me from all the times I had dinner there with my mates, service was great and the servers whilst waiting to serve was dancing to the korean pop music video that was screened on the wall. For a Wednesday night, it was quiet, there was only one other table occupied by three ladies engrossed in their conversation. Last order is at 10.15pm, and then suddenly whilst we were perusing the menu, a huge crowd of people came in , I guess they came for supper after watching a movie upstairs. Anyways we decided to order 2 family sets of the Korean Charbroiled Chicken, 4 sets of Kochi (wrote about these before in a previous post rather like chicken satay but tastes so much better with its mild spices), Korean Tea (tasted like roasted barley tea..quite a good drink to cleanse the palate), Ice chocolate, Orange juice, and 2 types of Korean desserts. One of them is kinda like brownies ala mode, and the other is like the korean version of ice kachang with red bean, shaved ice, rice cake, vanilla ice cream and a cherry on top.  Quite good! The charbroiled chicken was yummy as usual, the best way to describe the chicken is that its like having grilled chicken but much more moist and juicy with all the flavours of the marinate seeped into it. We also also ordered the Fish cutlet which I think had a panko coating, crispy, and a mayonaise dijon dressing on it served with fries and fresh coleslaw (which tastes so  much better then other coleslaws from fast food joints). With the family set meals, it includes, 4 drinks per set, 2 servings of colesaw per set, 2 servings of fries per set and 8 pieces of charbroiled thigh meat.  Times 2 for all of that. It was a pretty enjoyable meal, rare to have had dinner with the family in Orchard Road. Hmm next time, I’d like to try their soup, looks interesting since so many people ordered that.  Oh and currently there’s a promotion going on with the cinema, you can redeem movie tickets with your receipt from BBQ Korean. I walked over to Cineleisure this morning to redeem the tickets. So we’re going to the movies next week with Mummy and adik :)

I’m taking a mental note not to go there on a Saturday night. My family and I went to the branch at Terminal 2, dang were they packed! We ordered 2 types of 2-in-1 hot pot and bbq, short beef ribs, crispy spinach, 4 sets of namul and kimchi. Not too many stuff ordered compared to the last time we were there. Perhaps it was due to the fact that I was way too exhausted and sick to eat. Anyways, the stock base that we chose was kimchi, mummy decided to make it spicier by adding the condiments that the provided for us, like the gochujang and the green dipping sauce and garlic sauce, it made the kimchi soup so spicy and so nice on such a rainy cold night. I like meat, being vegetarian for 2 1/2 years in Australia, did my figure good but nothing beats the taste of thinly sliced beef thats slowly swirled in hot kimchi stock letting it change into a shade of slightly light pink before resting it on a bed of sticky rice. Heavenly. The crispy spinach was a good appetiser but the star of the night was the short beef ribs, sweet and succulent after bbqing it for a while, it was just gorgeous I know that’s not a word one describes beef, but it was simply delightful to rip the sweet meat off the bone. The salmon sashimi was thick and fresh. Next time, I’m gonna try the bibim baps there of which they have several varietys. I love the food, but dislike the smell of smoke in my hair hours afterwards.  Good place to take the family to for a halal korean meal.

Bibim Bap At Zingdo Korean Restaurant

After watching so many countless Korean drama serials on DVD, believe you me I can start a DVD library collection of Korean soaps, anyways always wanted to try the stuff that they eat, looks so appetising, especially Bibim Baps and Chajang mian, which I kinda figured its sorta like the black hokkien mee, just stickier..still in search of that. :P why are simple foods hard to find???? Anyways, finally got to try the Beef Bulgogi Bibim Bap at Zingdo’s located at the Jurong Entertainment Centre. Imagine..from the east side of Singapore, we travelled to the west side just to check out some Halal Korean eats. I finally got to try my first bibim bap here and spicy rice cakes. I mixed everything in the bowl together, there’s kimchi and beef and an egg yolk in the middle, yummy, that combo will never go wrong, add a lil gochujang according to your own preferences. The spicy rice cakes were delicious! Didn’t get to take a picture coz everyone’s chopsticks attacked it when it was set on the table. Mashta! The atmosphere’s kinda loud with lots of teenagers milling around and the decorations are bright orange! I guess the people who work there have a really bright and happy working environment. My gripe would be that the chairs were not too comfortable but the food was yum-o!
