Duck Rice

The duck rice at Enak Rasa Thai Seafood Restaurant is pretty popular, so much so, that by 9 pm, they usually run out of it. Too bad for me that I usually end up there 10 mins past 9pm. But one lucky evening, I got there about 8:50pm, closed the shop earlier coz I was determined to try this dish that my dad and brother were raving about. It was worth it. The duck wasn’t gamey at all but oh so juicy. The best part of the dish, was not just the duck but the sambal that accompanied it. It was made with dried shrimps I think, when mixed with the duck and white rice makes a killer combo. Quite yummy :) But then the duck here cannot be compared to the crispy roasted pipa ducks from Razack’s. My tummy rumbles just thinking about it. Didn’t manage to take a picture the last time we went there, just trust me on this it was really really really good. It didn’t even need a dipping sauce, just perfect on its own. Only thing though, you have to pre-order it, so give them a call first before heading down.

Bistro Delifrance at Ngee Ann City

n680443464_2285001_5605217One evening, Steph and I ended up at Ngee Ann City. I think we were there to check out Sephora. I’ve been to the Sephora in Las Vegas, Santa Monica and San Diego where the service was top notch and I was so happy to try before I buy. Didn’t get the same feeling here, so I didn’t spend a cent at all. Left the store feeling like it was a total letdown. The only way to perk my spirits up was duck! I like duck, don’t usually eat it, but if I see it on a menu, I’d definitely order it. It’s really rare to find halal duck dishes in restaurants, usually we’d be able to find only roast duck rice at halal family eateries around Singapore.

So I dragged Steph to Bistro Delifrance because I wanted to try out their duck offerings :) I wasn’t disappointed, I ordered duck mango salad and duck confit, which they don’t serve anymore :( . Steph ordered a mug of french onion soup and seafood baked rice. I LOVE the duck salad! The smoked duck breast was perfectly paired with a honey vinaigrette and chunks of juicy mango. The salad made my evening slightly better afterwards.

This year we celebrated Adik’s 23rd birthday at Earle’s with really great steaks and sausages. The meat was cooked to perfection, juicy and tender. We ordered Charbroiled T-bone steaks, Grilled Lobster pasta, Surf and Turf, Grilled Cod with Rice, Poultry Combo, Mango Shrimps, Baked Ocean Mussels and for dessert, an Apple Crumble in a sizzling pan topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream which was really yummy.  My favourite main I would have to say would be the Poultry Combo. The smoked duck was out of this world and the snail sausage was soooo good. The smoked duck didn’t taste gamey at all, perfectly smoked…wishing I had some now :)  I’ve always found Earle to provide a much better selection then its normal outlets. The cuts of meat here were much better then the ones I tried at outlets in the city where it was either overcooked, dry and frankly quite a dissapointment despite requesting for a medium steak. It’s been six months since we’ve been to Vivocity, wonder when are we going to Earle’s again though.
