I am loved

This past month, I haven’t been writing much here. Sometimes the words that one wants to express just refuses to come out. Emotions was translated to tears, pints of Chunky Monkey, dozens of macarons and endless whatsapp messages to best mates that try their hardest to bring you back to an almost sane emotional state. Eating just salads and protein every night probably didnt help either. These past weeks have been difficult but having my friends “close” electronically have helped heaps.

Today, I turn another year older and I am overwhelmed by the love my friends and family have shown me. Mommy surprised me with mac & cheese with mushrooms for lunch and a strawberry shortcake. Mommy hasnt been well lately but she spent the morning cooking and preparing for tonight’s dinner. She made glutinous rice with coconut milk or basically pulut(Yums), Indonesian roast chicken thats basted in a coconut, candlenut and other spices sauce and roasted in the oven or simply known as Ayam Panggang, dried cuttlefish sambal with eggs and a huge bowl of salad. Quite a different spread from what I’ve been having for dinner everyday for the past month. I was really surprised and so touched by what mommy had made with love. My second birthday cake was from @pinknina who had customized a chocolate cake for me. I was really touched and so happy by this amazing birthday present. The cake was light, fluffy and damn chocolatey good with cold milk. But best of all we got to spend time with Nina after a very long time. Thanks for spending your time with us @pinknina on my birthday :) My phone has been ringing non-stop and I appreciate all my mates that took the time to call or leave messages for me.

It’s the friends and family that make such a day like this utterly special. :)

Brawn Steakhouse

On Ariff’s 26th birthday, we decided to celebrate it at Brawn Steakhouse. We’ve always wanted to try black cherry wood smoked steaks, and this was the place to go in Singapore. Brawn is under the same umbrella of company with Meatworks and Señor Santos. The decor of the restaurant was pretty nice and looks really upscale with white table cloth and dark wood chairs and beautiful lighting, kinda romantic for dates. There was one other gentleman in the restaurant having dinner besides us. So it was a pretty nice atmosphere to celebrate Ariff’s birthday.

We were served with yummy warm bread rolls and butter. We ordered the black mussels, two dozen escargot, 72 hours marinated salmon to start with. The black mussels was so plump and delicious. The escargot was so good and “fleshy”. Whilst the salmon that was cured with orange, was simply delightful!

I ordered the filet mignon for me with mushroom sauce, Ariff got his favourite wagyu sirloin, mom had the grilled seabass while dad & uncle ordered the tenderloin with black pepper sauce. I have to say that was an amazing filet mignon, each bite a unique smoky juicy morsel. Ariff’s wagyu sirloin was so buttery and simply delicious.

We ended our meal with creme brûlée and a tarte fine, an apple tart that had a salty and sweet pastry that was served Ala mode. Really really delightful! Next visit, I really want to try their pulled fork sandwich and wagyu corned beef Mmmmmmm I salivate just thinking about this ;)

Mummy’s 50th birthday dinner

We actually planned to take mummy to Carousel for her 50th, unfortunately they were fully booked till the 8th. So we scrambled to find the next best alternative, Sakura International Buffet @ Cairnhill.

There were several stations there; Japanese, deep fried offerings like tempura or kani, chinese, grills, desserts & dim sum. What made me a really happy eater was that they had smoked duck sushi & pipa duck with braised sea cucumbers. The smoked duck sushi was unbelievably good, kinda like the smoked duck slices from Seoul Hot Pot. We tried the baked oysters & mussels, grilled scallops & yakitori, grilled lamb shoulder, beef satay & many many more. A wide variety of seafood is available for everyones taste buds.
