Bentos for brunch

I’ve been missing breakfast for the past few days in order to avoid the rush of people at the gym. So mom has been packing bento for brunch instead.

On Monday, mom made ayam masak merah (chicken cooked in a spicy tomato sauce) and ketola and prawn soup. Ketola is ridge gourd pretty nice when its made into soup or cooked with Mee Sua. Mom tried out a new recipe for the ayam masak merah from the Rasa Malaysia site. Pretty delicious!

Today mom made a bento of kimbap. It was the first time she made anything sushi like. Kimbap is Korean sushi. She made it with omelet, spicy tuna, sticky korean rice, I guess you can use calrose rice instead. And seaweed to roll it all up. Pretty chubby but really nice for a first try at making it. I wonder what’s for tommorow’s Bento Brunch?

The Bento Brunch looks great. Your Mum is a miracle worker in the kitchen.

Indeed she is, I always look forward to breakfast/brunch and dinner. We usually eat together for dinner when mom cooks. Always something different on the dining table

I love ketola soup. But somehow I’m never able to recreate the taste
like the one my grandmother used to make!

I think it’s the “air tangan” of grandmothers, somehow whatever they cook its always delicious and always terngiang-ngiang in one’s memories.
